Christmas Parade

These are pictures from the Christmas Parade we went to. Here is a funny float all about the 9-12 project. Notice the "presents" titled clash for clunkers and stimulus. We all clapped and cheered as they went went by!

Now, here are some cheerleaders all dressed up like elfs. They were handing out little megaphones to kids and Piglet got one!

This is what he did after that to try and "hide" from the rest of the girls! It was funny, and they all thought he was so cute!

Here's the group we came to see.

Peach rode in the fair! The sun was shining right in her face and this was the best picture we could get!

What Christmas parade would be complete without a Santa on a firetruck?

And the best float there? The true meaning of this season of course!!

We had a blast. It was cold, but the sun started to come over to our side just before the parade started so we got the sunshine the wholetime which made it not so freezing. Peanut was in his sling and slept in his toasty warm cocoon the whole time.

Day of Errands

I am running out today to do a ton of errands. I do not like going out into the "Christmas crowds" of impatient people! But, if I don't go today, I am gonna run into it worse once school lets out. So, off I go to run all over town.

It is the first time we have gone out like this since the baby, and that makes it so much worse, since I have so much piled on to do from not doing it earlier. Pepper needs new sneakers, Peach needs some stuff for the horse, I need to get some socks and bibs for the baby, Pear needs to get some stuff for Christmas crafts, Piglet just wants to get a cookie, I have to run to the vet to get some dog medicine, the grocery store for food, take a package to my mom's, I wanted to wash my big winter comforter which doesn't fit in my washer so I will drop if off at the laundry mat on my way to the grocery. I really need to go to Sam's club but I am not. I think I will just get that stuff through the food co-op instead, it will be easier.

So, that cuts it down to what, no less than 8 stops right? I refuse to go to Walmart this time of year, I know it would save a couple stops if I went there but it would cost me so much more time I do believe. Plus, people are not in a good mood this time of year there

Whew, I am almost out of breath from just typing this...And of course I will have to stop along the way to feed the baby. We will probably meet Mr. Brown for lunch, and I hope the rain we are supposed to have holds off until I come home. Luckily, dinner is in the crock-pot already so that is out of the way.

I plan on posting some pictures tomorrow.

He is here!!!

Our new little man is now with us!!

I had a wonderful birth in the tub where Mr. Brown and I prayed our little son into this world for the half-hour before he was born. It was wonderful and an experience we will cherish forever.

My labor stalled a couple times, and my midwife said the old amish ladies told her a long time ago that the 5th baby causes the problems. I was so thankful to have my midwives - they were truly great!

He was 9 lbs 4 ozs and he is doing great. Everyone is totally in love with him and I am so thankful to God for his many blessings!!

He truly amazes me and during this birth He was so evident in all aspects of it. I have felt the presence of God a few times in my life - and He was here with us during this birth. It was truly amazing to be able to pray a new little one into this world!!!

Fall Festivals

We went to a fall festival Friday night. The mosquitoes were out in unbelievable numbers. We got so bit up it isn't even funny. Poor Pepper got bit on even on her ears, they were so red by the time we left. Then, poor Piglet stepped in fire ants and got all bit up by them. I was so ready to get out of there just to get away from nature!!

So - Last night, we went to a swamp party. There is a church we usually go to for food, games and candy, but we decided to do this instead. It was actually pretty cool. They had popcorn, marshmallow roasting stations, drinks, and train rides through the woods. We went on the train ride twice and it wasn't crowded at all because I guess everyone else was trick or treating. But, this time we brought a lot of bug spray and were fine!

The kids had a blast and then we came home and went to bed. We all enjoyed out extra hour of sleep!

I love this time of year, and it has finally cooled off today! Yay Hooray!

People...

Why do people think it is okay to comment about my family size? Especially when they are not nice comments?

I was at the store and a lady said to Piglet "Oh wow, mommy is going to have another baby it looks like" I said "Yes" and she said "Well this would be the caboose for SURE now wouldn't it?"

HELLO LADY - My children can hear you!! Please don't say things like that!

I am always so dumbfounded when people say things - the typical "your hands are full" can always be followed by "they sure are and I would't trade it for anything" but when they say strange things, I never have a good comeback and it bothers me.

Anyway, just thought I would vent on here since most who read my blog would never say such things to people!

Quick Post about God's Provision

Again, my van had a problem. It was leaking coolant and this was causing the engine to overheat. As I was sitting feeling kinda sorry for myself, Mr. Brown went and asked our new neighbor - who just happens to be a mechanic - and he came over and looked at it.

Now, how awesome is this? We live on a street where everyone has lived for 30 years. Mr. Brown grew up here, all our neighbors we have known forever. No one ever moves. Anyway, the house across from us was sold last Christmas and some man came in and did a lot of work to it. These guys bought it about 2 months ago. I have become friends with the lady, she is so sweet. They have a little girl Piglets age and they love playing together.

Anyway - the man brings the part(a $2.00 part) home yesterday and changes it out on my van in my driveway!! The labor alone would have been over a hundred bucks!!

God amazes me! Even when we don't realize it, He is working out the small details. It is a great reminder to me that even when we can't see the immediate results of what is going on, He is in control!!

Plans, plans, plans

Do you ever make plans only to have them collapse???

I keep tweaking my schedule and making plans to d this or that, but man life keeps changing and I am falling behind!!

Anyway, I have decided to enjoy life and see what happens. My life will not always be this chaotic and I want to enjoy the time I have right now!

Couponing has taken off here like you would not believe. You go to the store on the first day of the sale, and the shelves are wiped out. So, I have stopped being obsessed with getting all the deals and I have found a new friend - the "rain-check" This has eased my obsession with getting the best deals and being disappointed when not finding what is on sale at the groceery or drug stores.

I finaly broke down and got a new computer. The old one was so slow and just not working. Peach lost some school work on there and Mr. Brown said get a new one - so I did!

I love it, but now all my grocery savings are spent (and then some!!)

I have been flying along with life and school. We did get the kids bedrooms painted, and are trying to paint the back porch - but we keep having interruptions. Like horribly hot weather and then crazy rain that was coming in sideways. So, until it cools off and settles down the outside painting is on hold.

I cannot believe how close the holidays are. This fall has gotten away from me for sure, and I am trying to just enjoy this season!!

Prayers for Chris Klicka

I know it has been forever since I posted on here - I am sorry. Life has been very busy around here, and by the ed of the day my stuff isn't complete and I am just too tired to get on here.

I have implemented a new schedule today and we shall see how it goes.

I did want to get on here and post this link for Chris Klicka from HSLDA. Please pray for him and his family. He is in hospice care and will be with Jesus very soon. His wife and children are by his side and could use our prayers.

Starting School

Today was our first day of school. I awoke at 3:30 am to a horrible thunderstorm with crazy bad lightning and horrid hip pain. Great I thought - this is just how our year is gonna be. But, by the time I fell back asleep and got another hour of sleep I was refreshed and ready to go - until we actually started.

Pear acted as if she didn't even know what a pencil was for, or that she could write words with it. Strike one for mom.

Pepper wanted nothing more than to please me and tried her best to stay on task today.

Peach tried to start her math on the computer, to which the program would not work. Stupid technology I thought. I called my dad, our computer tech guy, who was in a meeting. Strike two for mom.

An hour later, I kid you not, the thing started working.

Then, back to Pear, who took an another hour to write her spelling words out three times each. Strike three for mom. What makes me think I can do this again I said to God. He must have known my frustration, because after a break we all felt much better. Mostly me I think.

Then Pear joyfully announced that she could read after her first day of school when she got through her language assignment without any help. We all laughed and laughed then.

We put together the beginning of a science lap-book and Pepper started working on it with much enthusiasm. Again - thank God for His mercies!!

I am waiting for tomorrow with a cheerful heart!!

Pain!!

I went to the doctor today and I have Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction. Man, does that cause a lot of pain! She said it was pretty bad and wants me to get a massage to help relax my muscles. She used a little tool called an activator and I feel better, but not great.

When we returned home, I explained to my kids I needed FULL co-operation and gave them a list of things to do while I tried to lay still with no sudden movements on the couch.

UGH - I could have said please act as wild as you can because I think they would have been calmer if I had said that! Between the new puppy wanting attention and not understanding why we were gone so long, and Piglet deciding bouncing a racketball on the wall behind the couch I was laying on - and then the puppy trying to catch it, and my bigger girls arguing with each other - I wanted to cry. So, I yelled at them instead. Badly - I apologized later and they said it was okay they knew I was in a lot of pain, but man do I feel bad about it!

Tommorrow is another day, and I am praying my hips feel better soon and if they don't I have the patience not to lose it again!!

Tears and ponderings

We went to the pound on Sunday to look. We grabbed one sweet little dog up and took her to the play area. She was in the cage with another dog who tried despratly to get out. ALL the other dogs started barking and jumping trying to get out. It was like they were saying "pick me pick me" It was heart wrenching to say the least, and I had to almost run out of the corrider because I had tears already and was really about to lose it.

It made me wonder what it would be like to go to an orphanage. I am sure the little ones who are old enough to understand are saying the same thing - "Pick Me Please Pick Me" My friend who adopted from China told me that was the hardest part - having to leave the others behind, knowing some would never ever know the true love of a family. I honestly don't know if I could handle that - having to walk away from children in need.

I will say some extra prayers tonight for the lost puppies and orphans. I pray the orphans come to have a family and know the love of parents - and most importantly the love of God. My heart is broken tonight thinking of them going to sleep without love.

As I watched Piglet run into Mr Brown's arms tonight when he got home it crushed me to know there are little boys out there without daddies. As he talked to the girls this evening and they laughed and told jokes and were just having a normal night, it made me remember there are children whose normal nights don't include laughter or security or love. My tears started flowing and I had to leave so my kids wouldn't see me cry. Not that seeing me cry would be a bad thing, but I wanted them to enjoy this time. We pray on a regular basis for widows and orphans, and support ministries that help thesm, but my heart is heavier now for some reason, and I intend to pray harder for these children.

One more deal I got today

Now, I went to my least favorite store today to get a perfectly planned out deal. OF COURSE, this is why they are my least favorite store. they are always, and I mean always out of whatever is on sale. Don 't ask why I bothered, but I figured since the sale just started yesterday i would be able to get the deals. After 10 minutes with the manager and a trip to another sister store, I finally got my deal.

For $117.89 I got:

2 $50 Gas cards
2 frozen pizzas
8 10 packs Capri Suns
1 Salad Dressing
1 6 pack coke
1 frozen cobbler
1 frozen whipped topping
8 12 packs teddy Grahams / Mini Oreos
4 Breyers Ice Creams

So, when you factor in $100 was gas cards, that was $17.89 for the groceries. It was such a pain though, and if I knew what it was going to take, I would not have done that today. As Pepper said when we were leaving the store "There's an hour of my life I won't get back!"

Crazy Back To School Grocery Deals

You know I love to save money on groceries, but this time of year the deals are crazy unbelievable.

I went to the grocery store and got the following:
3 Packs Pop-Tarts
9 Packs Assorted Eggo Waffles/French Toast
2 Family Size packs of Tea Bags
2 Packs Potato Chips
2 Containers Spreadable Butter
4 Packs Snack Pack Puddings

I spent $15.28 and will get a pre-paid Visa back in the mail of $10.00, so $5.28 out of pocket. Not Bad, even though these are treat things for us - but they will last us a while since we don't eat them very often.

Carbon Footprint?

As I was watching Glen Beck, he was reporting a story of how to reduce your carbon footprint. The reporters were saying not to have children, or at least have one less than you want because that is the best way to reduce your carbon footprint.

What nonsense. I blogged once before about how I do try to take care of my environment, but I am not a freak about it.

Craziness, craziness I swear!!

I am back!!

My computer is fixed and I am back now!!!

I feel so behind and so if I missed something huge on your blog, please let me know, there is no way I can read it all!

I feel so out of touch from the internet. I have had a lot of time to think though and I am proud to report Piglet is potty trained! Yeah horray!!

I am planning on trying to read through my emails tommorrow as best I can, and look foward to getting back into the swing of blogging again!

And, you wouldn't believe what the problem with my computer was either! After new modems, new wireless things, new wires to hook it all up, three service calls from the cable company and two weeks of no sky angel either, they finally got the internet working. Then the computer wouldn't stay on at all. It was a little fan clip that needed re-clipped. My computer man is so nice and did not even charge me!!

Not really back...not yet

A hard spot to be in

As an active anti-abortionist since I was in the 7th grade, I stand in shock as I see George Tiller is dead. As someone who was offered an abortion up to 26 weeks when I was 19 weeks pregnant, due to what they though was an "imperfect" baby, I know all too well how real late term abortions are and just how easy they are to obtain.

I am shocked that my first reaction was not of sadness. As a professing Christian, shouldn't I be sad for his murder? If I am against murder, even though he was a murderer, shouldn't I mourn for him? Isn't all life precious if I call myself pro-life?

Couldn't God in all his ability and power strike this man dead without any "help"? I do believe so. Does God truly call us to hunt down murderers and murder them? No - He does not.

I believe George Tiller's pastor should have approached him and taken care of this on a church discipline level. I think it is incredibly sad that he was at church, serving in church nonetheless, when he was gunned down. What a sad state that a pastor would allow this. What a sad state that we are so worried about offending people that someone who murdered innocent babies on a daily basis could sit in church Sunday after Sunday and never feel convicted about what he did. But, that is a different story for a different day.

Now, something sad I saw this morning on the news was a lady, crying no less, and saying she couldn't believe such evil could happen in her town. SUCH EVIL? What would she call the thousands of murders that occurred in her town on a daily basis? Where was her outcry then?

Now, I think we should all be praying hard. There are going to be ramifications from this for a long time. Pro-abortionists will make sure this man will be punished as an example so other anti-abortionists will get a warning. Not all anti-abortionists are people who would hunt down and murder the abortion doctors, but you better believe this man will be punished big time.

This will further the pro-abortion agenda that anti-abortionists are freak radicals who can't be trusted. Peaceful protests outside abortion clinics will now be monitored even more and the people protesting will be singled out as law breakers who need to be stopped.

This only inhibits our cause as anti-abortionists. Abortions are being done as I type this. Late term abortions are being done right now. You better believe our hard earned tax money is being spent right now paying the policemen to do extra patrols on abortion clinics and abortion workers. Police escorts are your right when you live in America and are under any threats. The police swear to protect us all.

It is up to God to judge and God only. I can't say that I know where George Tiller's soul is right now. I would think hell, even though he professed to be a Christian, due to his actions - but I can't judge his heart. Only God can judge our hearts. Thank God only He can judge our hearts. As a Christian, I shudder to think of anyone burning in hell, even someone as vile as George Tiller - who led a life as a murderer and blasphemer of our Lord - because Jesus Christ paid a huge price on the cross so we could all spend eternity with God our creator.

Pray with me as we suffer the backlash of a bad choice made by the shooter of George Tiller and as we pick the peices with God's help.

The Poison Ivy

Mr. Brown is now on prescription medicine from the poison ivy!

The town came out and tried to spray to help it. "Sometimes it is hard to kill they said" Ya think???

Stacie, you'll appreciate this. Do Not under ANY circumstances set it on fire. The fumes can get it your lungs and actually kill you. Unbelievable how powerful it is!

Pepper's leg is healing very well. She is walking on it some with a special boot to keep the pressure off.

We (Pepper, Piglet and I) actually went to church today for the first time in 5 weeks. I felt like a visitor! Mr Brown has been taking everyone else.

We are cleaning the house today so we can enjoy tomorrow, even with our rain! Y'all have a great weekend and remember all the military who serve us and protect us!!!

Things I Don't Understand

First,

This is certainly not an exhaustive list okay?

I don't understand how parents in Minnesota can be charged with child endangerment when they are using "alternative medicine" instead of chemo to treat their cancer stricken son when...

A Nebraska couple are not charged with anything when they are letting their 8 year old SON be a GIRL now. They are switching schools, changing his name to a girl one, letting him have long hair and earrings and dress in skirts and dresses. He is 8 years old and has been dressing like a girl for several years at home. How is this not child endangerment???

Now, as someone whose mama and mother-in-law suffered from cancer 2 years apart, I know how bad cancer treatments can be. They are poison, the oncologists tell you this. They are trying to poison the cancer cells. I do know how bad the treatments can be, I have seen. They make no guarantees and the oncologists we saw made that very clear and were as compassionate as could be. One of these dear women beat the cancer here on earth, and one went to heaven to be healed.

I just don't get how the second case isn't seen as child endangerment...

Now, off to different things I don't understand.

How can poison ivy live? How can the roots be so so strong?? How can you spray it with the concentrate instead of diluting it because it won't die and it still lives. This is absurd. If I forget to water my tomato plants for 2 days, they are wilted and I have to baby them back to life, but poison ivy can be spayed with concentrate poison and thrive as if you are fertilizing it??

Thanks for reading my rants this evening. If you have any tricks on how to kill it, leave a comment would ya??

We are still trying to heal with Pepper's broken leg. We saw the ortho and he had bad news. Both of her bones are broken not just one. But, at least she is in a hard cast now and is finally starting to feel a little better. She is still on elevated leg status and is getting restless from that, but is keeping a good attitude!

The first link I would like to share is for LittleTait His mama grew up right here in Charleston,SC but now lives in Alaska. Their baby was born very very early. Please visit their site and do what you can for them! Thanks!

The next is for My friend Kristin She and her whole state could use our prayers!!

Y'all have a great weekend!

Beacuse I love the Emergency Room

Pepper gave me the grand opportunity to go there last night. Mr. Brown was mowing the grass due to the 90 degree weather we were supposed to have today. Pepper thought it would be great to use some of the supplies she found in a trash pile down the road.

Wood, rope, etc was found in the throw away pile and she was going to build a rope swing from the tree. She built a grand swing and just to make sure it was VERY secure for her siblings and friends that were to use it, she climbed up the tree one more time to make sure everything was nice and tight.

She slipped and fell about 7 feet out of the tree and landed on her ankle. It was very swollen by the time I made it over there and she could not walk. So, off to the ER we went.

Of course it was a Friday night, and was very, very crowded. The triage nurse apologized and said everyone thinks they have the swine flu. Anyway, her leg is broken. It is so swollen, they cannot hard cast it, so she is in a semi hard cast from toes to knee. Kinda looks the same from outside. Next week, we see the ortho again and they will determine what to do then.

We spent 5 hours at the ER and then another 2 hours trying to get her Rx filled. Apparently 24 hour pharmacies are not able to fill Rx's at 2:30 am due to computer reboots that take 2 hours to do. By the time we arrived and they told me that I was pretty mad. I mean, what is the point of a 24 hour pharmacy except for situations like that? The second store had a very nice pharmacist, and although they would be able to fill it, they were out of the medicine. So, back to the first we went to wait.

Anyway, we got it, gave it to her, and after trying very hard to get comfortable she finally fell asleep about 5 am. Poor thing!

She was born with a smile on her face and she has kept it even through this ordeal. Smiling and crying as they told my natural born swimmer she would not be swimming this season. Smiling as we drove trying to get her medicine filled. Smiling and crying as she tried to get comfortable with all those pillows under her leg.

So, this weekend we are elevating, taking tons of pain meds, practicing using crutches, and already fighting the itch down inside the cast.

I am just thankful to God that it was only her leg and nothing more serious like her neck. We prayed together on the way to the ER and also on the way home for His protection that He gave to us all.

Getting over sickness - Again

Ah, Piglet came down with a stomach bug on Wednesday last week. By Thursday, although drained, he was doing somewhat better. That is until bedtime. Then, it broke loose. He started coughing so bad, and really couldn't stop. This went on for hours. By morning, I got in with the Dr. He had bronchitis and croup. Now, it is 80 degrees here. Even the Dr scratched his head and said wow - croup season is over, but...

So, over the weekend he got worse. They called in more medicine and still nothing but non-improvements. Poor little thing hasn't eaten since Wednesday, despite my great attempts at such great healing foods like baby carrots, apples, yogurt with extra probiotics, pedialyte, etc.

So, back to the Dr today. They swabbed him for the flu since he still has a fever, but luckily that came back negative. So, more antibiotics and steroids. We left there and went to the drugstore. They said it would be 15 minutes. I knew there was a boiled peanut place around the corner, so I went there craving some. Closed, they don't open until after lunch.

But, I did see a hot-dog stand. I asked him if he wanted a hot-dog. He said yes and kept saying hot-dog, hot-dog. So, I got him a hot dog. He ate half of it and half the bag of cheetos and half the Fresca that came with his "meal". HURRAY.

He took his medicine and was then incredibly wired. He played for 2 hours then took a nap. He got up so excited and was hardly coughing.

Now, who would have thought that a hot-dog from a roadside hot-dog stand could do that? I though to myself, well at least they are all beef...

Two Tim Hawkins Videos

Okay, I don't know if you have ever heard of Tim Hawkins before or not, but he is so funny. I mean roll on the floor funny. he is a Christian homeschooling dad, his comedy is clean for the whole family. We've been watching him for several years on Sky Angel, on shows like Bananas and his own specials. He sometimes uses other songs and turns them into funny things, kinda like Weird Al used to, but it is so much funnier. Here is a video I have not seen before: (Pause the music player down on the right hand side before starting the video)

And another about homeschooling I have and still laugh so hard at:

Remembering Columbine

I am sure most of us remember where we were when we heard of Columbine happening. I got this yesterday and thought it was worth posting.

On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful..

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder, I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air,
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

" Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence.

And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain.

Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your
own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

No Breakfast In Hell

I put a new song on my playlist that I heard the Newsboys sing on a concert. Here are the lyrics. I laughed so hard, but it is true, there is no breakfast in hell and more importantly don't be caught without HIM. Enjoy.

Hold the milk, put back the sugar
They are powerless to console
We've gathered here to sprinkle ashes
from our late friend's cereal bowl.
Breakfast Clubbers, say the motto
that he taught us to repeat:
You will lose it in your gym class
if you wait `til noon to eat.
Back when the Chess Club said our eggs were soft
every Monday he'd say grace and hold our juice aloft
Oh, none of us knew his checkout time would come so soon
But before his brain stopped waving, he composed this tune:
Chorus
WHEN THE TOAST IS BURNED
AND ALL THE MILK HAS TURNED
AND CAPTAIN CRUNCH IS WAVING FAREWELL
WHEN THE BIG ONE FINDS YOU
MAY THIS SONG REMIND YOU
THAT THEY DON'T SERVE BREAKFAST IN HELL
Breakfast clubbers, drop the hankies.
Though to some our friend was odd,
that day he bought those pine pajamas
his check was good with God.
Those here without the Lord,
how do you cope?
For this morning we don't mourn
like those who have no hope
Oh, rise up, Fruit Loop lovers -
sing out sweet & low
With spoons held high
we bid our brother, Cheerio!

Easter

We celebrated Easter this year very low key. Between the dog dying and my hormones, we decided low key was the way to go. I bought a pre-made ham at the Honey-Baked Ham store, and because I was so late getting it, I got a Turkey breast as well as part of a special. We had Sweet Potato Casserole, Green Beans, Corn Casserole, Ham, Turkey, and Resurrection Rolls (from Marilyn Boyer's site, very neat) Right after church, we had a shrimp ring, cheese and crackers, stuffed celery, and an olive tray. Very simple and very nice.

The kids got new cups and bowls from Target - those cheap plastic things only last about a year anyway. They are so cute in the spring anyway. Piglet got several cars and Pear got some little ponies, Pepper got some jewelry, Pear got some jewelry and of course everyone got candy!!

Right after church, we had some baptisms in the pool outside. It was very nice. A little boy Pepper's age was baptised by his parents, a teen girl and several adults were baptised by our pastor. Piglet sung "Happy Birthday" after each one and kept telling the birds to "hush" (his new little word) It was pretty cute!

A wonderful day celebrating our Lord Jesus's Resurrection and our life through Him! I hope each of yours was wonderful as well!

Sad Day for Me

My old girl (13 years old) died today. She has not been doing well lately, having to be carried down the steps about half the time. Last night she paced and paced up and down the hall and was just not right. When I got up she had accidents all over the house which is just not like her at all. I finally got her outside and she laid down.

Mr Brown said to take her to the vet. I called and they didn't have anything until 4. They called me back and said bring her after lunch. I took her and the vet said she was not well at all. All of her muscle tone was gone, her bones were weak, her stomach and bowels were a mess and she was breathing very heavily. He said the decision was mine, but she would not be alive much longer anyway. I called Mr Brown and he said go ahead and put her down.

Easy for him since he wasn't there. I hate days like this. So, crying kids and sobbing me, I signed the paper. Could be pregnancy hormones or maybe just because I have had her almost as long as I have had Peach. She is the first dog my husband and I picked out together, and the first one I have had to say go ahead and put her down, but man does this day need to be over!

Poor Pear sobbed and sobbed because she thought they were just doing surgery, like she has - you know "put to sleep like I was Mama" No, baby after she is asleep, they give her something that will make her die. Oh the hysterics. She had to leave the room and little Piglet was so sweet. His 2 year old self said goodbye and blew her a kiss as the kids left the room.

Then she couldn't get up off the floor, just like at home and they actually had to pick her up and carry her out of the room. They assured me I made the right decision, but still I am sad.

When I came home, the other dogs ran up to the van and were trying to find her. I started crying all over again. So, I called Mr Brown and said if you want to eat, you better get a pizza on the way home.

They were so nice at the vet, and the girls up front were whispering when I came out of the room. One said I hate days when we have to do this. Yeah Me Too I thought, Me Too!

Strange Car

I saw a strange car today. We were on our way back from the feed and tack store because when Peach was riding the horse she (the horse) broke her bridle and we had to go get a new one.

We got behind this car with all kinds of bumper stickers.

The first one that caught my attention was one that said "All religions are Right" Um, okay, that's weird and untrue I thought.

Then the next one said "My hope is in the Atom" Okay, getting stranger.

The next said "Save the wildlife, Don't drill Alaska" Okay, one of those people I thought.

Now the next one said, "I Stand with Israel Wherever They Go" What?

Did they buy a grab bag of bumper stickers? Those don't even go together. I just found it to be strange one person would have those together.

We all laughed and the girls said, "You're not gonna put that on your blog are you?" Yep, I am.

Transformed

We just got back from the Transformed conference. Ray Comfort, Todd Friel, Mark Spence and Emeal Zwanye (EZ is what he goes by) were there. All I can say is WOW. If you ever have the chance to go to one of these - GO.

There were people there from all over. We are in Charleston, SC as in the coast, by the beach. There were people from North Carolina and the furthest away I talked to was from Alabama.

I got so much information from this it is unbelievable. One of the best stories was from Ray Comfort. Everyone who knows me knows how I feel about abortion. He spoke about when he was an assistant pastor at a church, there was a new member and someone came to him and said she was scheduled for an abortion - THAT DAY. He panicked and prayed. He hopped in his car and drove to the "square" (He is from New Zealand and I imagine he sounds like my friend Cassie from Australia :) Anyway, he is praying "Lord, help me know what to say to her. Lord please I don't know what to say." He runs upstairs and into her room. She had already been given the pre-operation meds and he says, "Please don't. I just want to you to know" and he starts to stumble in his words he is so upset. And do you know what? She says "Its okay, I just prayed if the Lord did not want me to do this, he would send you as a sign not to" Is that not amazing? This baby was saved and was born safely.

The point to his story was you must go and talk to people. Even if you are scared, even if you don't know what to say, GO. Being scared or not knowing what to say is no excuse. He didn't know what to say either, but his going saved that baby's life. WOW!!

We got so much info it is still spinning through our minds. I could spend weeks listening to these guys and still not absorb everything they were saying. It is all so Biblically true. They talked about everything from abortion to gay marriage to witnessing to everyone. It was so so so good.

Like I said, if they even come close to you, GO. It was 5 hours long, but flew by like you wouldn't believe. At the end, EZ spoke and man was that powerful. People were standing up and clapping and it was so powerful. He is the father of 5, as is Mark Spence and it was so moving to hear him talk about how God, who is the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end, is relevant to everyone from A-Z. From the Accountant to the Zealot. He went through each letter and it was great.

A Sweet Award

Cassie from Cassie's blog gave me an award. She is such a neat person, I love her blog. She gets more done in a day than I can hope to in a week. She lives in Australia so sometime uses words like mince which means ground beef, but she always explains when I don't understand! She is also one of the most beautifully pregnant women I have seen. Check out her blog sometime, you will be blessed.

The award is as follows:

"These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated."
Isnt that wonderful!!

The rules are
Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

So, the people I pass this award on to are:

Stacie at A Firefighter's Wife who always has encouraging words and wonderful wisdom

Her twin Jackie at CheeseMakinMamma who is always offering health tips and sweet words

CB at GatheringLilies my friend from beautiful Hawaii who is quite honest and uplifting

Cindy at Life Lessons although Cassie awarded her already. She is honest and an incredibly strong woman. Her husband is deployed and besides being a sweet lady, she could use our prayers!

Mama Ant at Ant Farm who is a Southern Lady from Georgia, a homeschooling mama of ten, who is an inspiration to me

The Smith Ladies, also from Georgia, at Smith Familia. These ladies are so sweet. Several of their children are married now, but the whole family lived on a boat for a little while and had a wonderful show we used to get on Sky Angel, and we were able to watch the adoption of their youngest children through that.

The Morton Ladies, also in Georgia, at Morton's They are a family of 12 I found through the Smith's. Mama Morton has wonderful tips on how to train daughter's to run their own household one day, and the daughters are so sweet as well.

And last, but not least, is my local South Carolina girl Mom E at Eppes Center I heard about her before she moved here from Georgia through some friends who used to live here but moved to Georgia. I know that's a mouthful, but I hope it makes sense. She is about to have baby number 8 and is such an encourager. She helps head up our local American Girl club, is wonderfully patient (I have never even seen her raise her voice), and is always opening her home in hospitality.

Thanks Again Cassie!

Eggs everywhere!

My friend Darcy and I take turns getting our milk each week. We get our milk locally, but it still is a 12 mile drive each way, so we take turns. Yesterday she got it. I met up with her after church and she gave me a ton of eggs. Her chickens are really liking spring and laying like crazy. I teased my kids they really wanted us to use real eggs to hide instead of plastic for Easter!

But, I have this great recipe for eggs, very cheap and very filling. I will share it with y'all:

1/2 stick butter
9 eggs (you can use more if you want, this feeds my family of 6, it is filling!)
1/2 cup flour
Salt and Pepper
Milk

Melt butter and scramble eggs in it. Just when they start to form, add the flour, salt and pepper and stir. Then add the milk and continue to stir. I don't measure the milk, but it looks like gravy.

We serve it over toast, you can serve it over noodles to if you want. This is a depression recipe and was used by many women trying to feed their family by what they had. Let me tell you, those women were quite creative and good at what they did. Enjoy!

Mother/Daughter Time

My very swwet friend Vicki has a special time once a month for mothers and daughters. She has us over to her house, we usually have lunch, and it is such a sweet time of fellowship. She is a lovely lady of God and I just love being around her.

Today was our gathering. We brought dolls and talked of how dolls relate to training daughters to be Godly wives and mamas. Then she served a wonderful lunch of turkey croissants, raspberry tea, deviled eggs, fruit salad with wonderful pineapple so sweet, brownies, a veggie tray, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. It was so wonderful.

Then, the girls played apples to apples while the grown ladies talked. It is always such a sweet time. I am so glad she includes us in her time.

Mr Brown took Piglet for his special boy time. They went to Lowes and to Chick-fil-A. Then Piglet took a wonderful nap since he was so tired from his activities. Such a lovely day, and good thing since it is now pouring rain and we have a tornado warning. So, off the computer I am going now!

Monday happenings

I got Pepper and Pear new handwriting books, A Reason for Handwriting. It is based on scripture, and they learn a new verse each week. They are loving it!

The one Pear has is called transition and it helps them go from print to cursive. She is loving it and can't wait to get to the cursive part!

I have a horrible headache today, so I don't think I am going grocery shopping today. It dropped in temp again this weekend, and I think my body is not adjusting to the weather very well. I am not sure why because it happens every year, but that's the way it is right now. It doesn't look like there are ground breaking deals this week anyway. I will have to meal-plan from the freezer, but thats why I have that option right?

Awesome Grocery Deals & Meal Plan Monday

Okay, I got some great great deals at the grocery today. I went to Sam's this weekend and got my months worth of supplies I get from there ($252.65), and I am only going to get what is on super sale and I have coupons for at the grocery.

Okay April, if you are reading this, this is for you and your brother in law! I went to Publix and Bi-Lo today and got all of the following:

2 6-pack Kashi Crackers
2 6-pack Special K Crackers
1 Frozen Steamfresh deluxe veggie
1 Frozen Steamfresh Meal for 2 (Shrimp)
2 Danactive 4 pack smoothies
4 Cans Progresso Soup
16 Cans of mixed veggies (4 each peas, corn, green beans)
2 Cans Tomato Paste
*1 Box Captain Crunch Cereal *
*2 Boxes Life Cereal*
*10 Boxes Pop Tarts*
2 boxes of 10 pack drink mix in for water bottles
2 Boxes Spagetti
3 6 pack yogurt
3 4 pack yogurt
2 Shampoos
1 Conditioner
1/2 lb greek olives
3 2 liter soda
4 small packs of candy for Mr Brown's lunch
1 box brownie mix
1 brick of coffee
4 large pieces of Salmon
3 Cans Tomato Soup
2 Voila Frozen Meals (Shrimp)
4 pack toilet paper
2 4pack sandwich rolls
1 lb deli sliced chicken
1/4 lb deli cheese
1 package gum

For a whopping $57.83! Now, the *'s are things I NEVER buy, so my kids were very shocked and wondering if I truly had a nervous breakdown this weekend over my van, and the yogurt I usually make, BUT, the store actually paid me for these things. The coupons were worth more than the products, so it helped bring my overall total down. Crazy I know, but hey that's a lot of groceries for 58 bucks!

I got at Bilo:

33 cans of tuna
4 loaves of sandwich bread

for $14. Not bad I thought. Even though I usually make my bread, it was too good not to pass up and we use it for french toast casserole.

My savings were $125 according to the sales and my coupons, alomost double what I spent!

So, my meal plan is as follows:

Monday: Chicken, mashed potatoes and corn
Tuesday: Spagetti and green beans
Wednesday: Tuna noodle casserole
Thursday: Beans, Smoked Sausage, and cornbread
Friday: Shrimp dinner with rice
Saturday: Salmon, peas and salads
Sunday: Smothered Chicken

I think I am off to a great start for March. My stuff from Sam's includes cleaning supplies, some meat, laundry soap, and pet food. I spend $24 a week on my local milk. So, my grand total so far for March is $308. My plan is to try to stay under $600 this month, including milk and get a stockpile going so I can spend under $500 next month. We'll see.

Car Troubles and Answered Prayers

My God never ceases to amaze me!

My van has had numerous problems over the last 2 years. Mr Brown can do some things to it, but the major engine things we take it to a mechanic. In October, we spent $700 on repairs. Last week, it seemed to blow up in our driveway. We have been saving and saving for some major house repairs, as in roof, wood repair and gutters. I did not want to have to spend this money on repairs. We had it towed in and they said it would be $600. So, we paid it and picked it up 2 days later when it was ready.

I took the kids to church Wednesday night and when we got back in the van, it had a hard time starting, and on the way home the engine light came on. Great, not even 24 hours and the van is messed up again.

So, by yesterday we picked it back up, with more repairs done and I was told we needed to start looking for a new vehicle because this one was just worn out. I was a mess, we had literally 5 things to do yesterday and I was incapable of doing them. Then today I was just crying and asking God "why why" We have been doing Dave Ramsey and have committed not to borrow, but this is just so big. This past year it has been saving for this project, and next year we are saving for a bigger vehicle, so this doesn't fit into our plan.

Then here comes Mr Brown saying "God just told me to take the starter out and take it to the store to get tested." Um, okay Mr Brown like the mechanic didn't check that I said.

Just in case y'all don't know, we are having horrible winter weather. It was freezing cold and it has been raining very hard for about 12 hours. So, he goes outside in this weather while I am pouting in the couch. He crawls under the van, pulls the starter out, takes it to the store and GUESS WHAT? It is faulty.

Yep, you heard right, failing starter. So, $124 and a couple hours later I have a new starter, a thawing husband and a working van. So, after apologizing profusely for my nasty attitude and asking God to forgive me, and thanking my wonderful handy husband, I started thinking about my attitude.

Instead of trusting Him, or thinking that no matter what He will get the glory, like in this - He told Mr Brown the problem - I start questioning his motives and plan. I really need to just trust him and know it will work out in the end and He will get the glory.

Luckily, I cooked in both of my crock-pots today so I could put up some stuff. In my huge crock-pot I cooked 4 meals of salsa beef, and in the regular one I cooked 2 italian chicken ones. So, we had plenty of dinner and everyone got to choose what they wanted.

We just finished watching a Toby Mac special about "Jesus Freak" the song. What powerful words they are. DC Talk was on the brink of a huge successful record deal and they just needed to tone down their christianity. Toby Mac wrote these words

What will people think
When they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What will people do when they find that its true
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
There ain't no disguising the truth

it shot them to the top of the charts, changed christian music forever, and all because of their blatant unashamed faith in God. How fitting to listen to that when I have had the day and week I have.

God never ceases to amaze me!

Attitudes and Mission Statements

Parenting is hard work isn't it?

You are constantly doing something, checking on progress, teaching, praying for and with, building relationships, tying heartstrings, putting out fires, and growing yourself as well.

We have had to come back to ground zero if you will over some building of attitudes that are not very nice.

I hade each of my girls write a mission statement that started like this "My mission from God, in being a part of this family is, ..." they had to fill it in. I was actually impressed with what they said, they soak in so much!

Then, we concentrated on Matthew 7:16-29 in 2 parts. First 16-20 then 21-29.

16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?
17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

We talked about being known by your fruits, choosing who you will serve, and following through with that choice. I tried to get through to them when you make a choice not to choose this day who you will serve, you are still making a choice and you would not want to be known by the fruit that will bring.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching,
29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

We talked about how important a foundation is and why they have to do things a certain way. It is not because we are legalistic parents who love having strict sets of rules. It is for the setting of firm foundations so they know for themselves why things are the way they are.

We (Mr. Brown and I) are so strict on certain things, but let other things go. We have lost friends who see us a too lenient, but have gotten flak from others who think we are too strict. We really do try to let things go that are not a salvation issue, but we want them to understand and develop a strong faith and love for the Lord. We don't want our children to be "religious", we want our children to Love and Serve the Lord with all they do.

It is funny too, because as we were watching Todd Friel last night (excellent show on theology by the way - Todd works with Kirk Cameron on the way of the master radio show and then has a tv show called Wretched - as in who saved a Wretch like me from Amazing Grace)

Anyway, he showed a clip from a pastor who said if we are going to talk about debt being a bad thing, and I have the drama team make a skit about debt being bad, and I have the worship team make a song about debt being bad, and we sing when you only have $4 and you spend $7, that is bad, and I talk about not spending more than you make, and we sing the song again so you can remember, when times get bad you won't remember. Somewhere in the back of your head you will know spending 7 when you only have 4 was bad, but you won't understand the underlying principle. You won't hold this as your own, it was just some song and skit you saw and you weren't taught a biblical principle.

We saw a correlation between this and what we were trying to do with our kids. Making sure they understand the principle behind the rules is what it is important here in our household. Making sure they understand they have a choice who they will serve, and trying in LOVE, not legalism or religion, to help them be a good tree, bearing good fruit, whose roots are deep in the rock.

Hopefully, they see us trying to do what we are teaching them to do. Hope that makes sense!

Prayer needed for a baby

Hi, would you pray for my online friend and her newborn baby who has been hospitalized and diagnosed with group b strep?

Her husband is deployed, and she and her baby need our prayers.

I can't post a link, because I can't ask her if its okay right now since she is so busy with the situation. God knows her name and the baby, and I am sure she would appreciate it. Thanks!

Video worth watching

There is a very moving video (Thanks CB!) on this blog :
http://gatheringlilies.blogspot.com

This was rejected by the Superbowl for commercials during the game, but shouldn't have been. Watch the video. It really makes a statement. Don't get me started on why that was rejected with all the other crud they showed, but that's a different story.

Here's something else to think about:

Q1: If you knew a woman who was pregnant, and she had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis; would you recommend that she have an abortion?

If you said yes, you just killed Beethoven.

Q2: It is time to elect the world leader, and your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three leading candidates:
Which of these candidates would be your choice?

Candidate A associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Candidate B was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening.

Candidate C is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn't had any extramarital affairs.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt
Candidate B is Winston Churchill
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler

Babies, Environment, and Population Control

I am sure you have heard of the environmentalist new *plan* Several people are blogging about it already. The new idea is if they limit child size then we won't ruin the planet.

This is absurd! We should all as humans care about being good stewards of what we have been given. As Christians, we see this earth as something God created for us to live on and populate.

News Flash - God didn't create cars and manufacturing plants. This we did. Back when people had more children, and worked their own land, we were not ruining the earth. Now, I love my car as much as the next person. And the Internet, my computer, my cell phone, and numerous other things that make my life more convenient. These things were created at a plant, with often times dangerous substances in them, or as a by-product of them.

And I love using them, but they are not necessary for me to live. I love being able to get on my computer and talk to my friends in Australia and all around America just about everyday when I live in South Carolina. Impossible without these inventions we have.

But, lets stop pretending it's the amount of people hurting the planet. It is what we think we deserve to do that is hurting it.

When people, lawmakers, think they can fly in their own little planes all over and then tell us that the amount of people are ruining it, as they buy "credits" to damage the earth, how can we not laugh??

When people take cruises that pollute the ocean, and buy products from nations that devalue their people and what they are exposed to, and watch shows like Whale Wars and not try to stop the killing whales which is illegal, or buy their food out on a regular basis with all the trash individual wrappings make, and then the try to blame population on the problems, what will we do or say?

Most large families I know, try much harder than the average person to make things themselves and take care of the earth. Let me tell you what we do:

We buy our milk local. It is organic, non-homogenized real milk from local cows.

We eat fresh eggs from chickens that eat bugs and scraps and get real sunshine not fake lights.

We garden ourselves and try to freeze or dry our surplus.

We go to the farmer's market, which we have 8 months out of our year, for local things we don't grow, and great deals on the surplus someone might have.

We recycle everything. People laugh at us when we do go out, because I have been known to pack up others trash into my bags to recycle instead of throwing it away.

I make my own yogurt now. I was buying it, but it only came in number 5 plastic which we can't recycle. So, now I make it. It tastes better anyway.

I grind my own wheat for bread, and buy in bulk from a local co-op for things such as beans, lentils, oatmeal, rice etc. My wheat comes from Montana but everything else is grown within 3 states from me.

We have power strips in every room. They are turned off when we leave the room so nothing (tv, computer, lamps, chargers, etc) is pulling electricity unnecessarily.

We try to dry our clothes outside as much as possible. Rain is a problem here, so I will use the dryer when I need to. I have an inside rack as well, but if it rains for 3 days in a row the dryer is used. I also don't hang outside if it is below 50 degrees.

I try to plan my route in the best way when I leave my house. I try to complete as many things per trip as I can. I personally believe it is better to order online and have the delivery person bring it to you than go to get it as well. Think about it. They are in a neighborhood delivering to everyone there that has ordered. Most people I know have at least 2 cars. If they are gone going here and there, they are using more gas, and probably more resources such as plastic water or soda bottles and individual snacks than the delivery person.

We only play sports that we can feasibly walk to, ride bikes to, or when totally necessary drive to.

We are very careful with our thermostat. We wear sweaters and thick socks in the winter and tank tops in the summer. We run fans and open windows as much as we can. We turn our heat down at night and use down comforters.

And we homeschool. So, my kids aren't riding the bus and using all that extra gasoline and resources.

If you are still reading my rant, Thank-you. I honestly feel like my family of 6 makes less of a bad impact on this earth than most families of 1 or 2 I know.

Now, I am going to have my coffee and wake my kids up.

Being Judgemental

Sunday after church, my older 2 went on a 12 mile bike trail ride with my dad. Mr. Brown said, hey wanna go to lunch? I said sure. We went to lunch at a chinese place and only had Piglet and Pear with us. There was a family with 6 kids, all boys dressed the same as the dad, except the baby a girl. The mom was expecting again and they were all so cute and very well behaved. I made the comment how cute they were when passing her on my way to the buffet. Later, I stopped and asked if she homeschooled. She said yes, and I told her about our local Christian support group. I told her I had 4 kids and really emjoyed the group, yada yada. She seemed turned off and kinda snobbish at that point. So, I walked away.

It really bothered me. I was embarrassed for talking to her at all. I asked Mr. Brown what he thought after they left. After talking about it, we realized we only had 2 kids with us. I think she thought that my "older 2" as I referred to them as (I often do that since there are almost 4 years between them and my 3rd child) were from a different marriage/relationship etc.

Then I got mad. First of all, I was offended about it since they are not. Then, I was really mad that she jumped to that conclusion so quickly. I really felt like she wrote me off after I said I had "2 older kids" Then it was if the Lord whispered, "Have you never jumped to conclusions about someone?"

Lord, please forgive me for doing this myself. I want to be outreaching, not judgemental. This is what give Christians such bad names. Thinking they are so much better, because they are saved. I know I have seen that myself in my own actions. I must remember not to be so quick to be critical, and remember just how lost I was without Christ. No one deserves forgiveness, but it is available to us all!

Humble Mothering

This is a post from a blog I like to follow A Firefighter's Wife, put on here with permission from Stacie (Thanks Stacie!):

Humble Mothering

Dear Mothers,

I read a wonderful article by Maranatha Chapman called, “A Mother’s Rights”. I am going to try to condense it down for you so that this will stay a “minute devotion”. I know many of you are busy and it is all you can do to sit down and read this! Please know these are not my words, but the words of a mother who is called to minister encouragement to other moms.

When we compare ourselves with others, we think, “They don’t have to deal with what I have to,” or, “She’s the perfect mom, why can’t I be?” It is good to learn from others, but we are foolish and “without understanding” when we compare ourselves with others (2 Corinthians 10:12). All of us have to deal with these same types of things, but God has made “a way of escape” (1 Corinthians 10:13). So if motherhood is a struggle for you or if it is a fight of faith every single day and you have to call out to the LORD all day everyday day, then that probably means that you are doing something right! Remember God’s promise: Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary (Galatians 6:9)! What will we reap as we persevere in “doing good” as mother? An abundance of His grace and life flowing through us to our families.

But if you have something in you that says, “Hey, I’m doing pretty good” or “I’ve got everything under control,” I encourage you to really look at the source of these attitudes because “God is opposed to the proud” and only “gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). If we see ourselves accurately-from God’s perspective-then we know beyond doubt that the only thing that makes us anything is because we are walking miracles of His grace and redemption. And for the sake of our children, we cannot afford the attitudes of “It really does not matter how we do this” or “Everything will turn out just fine” as we haphazardly proceed on through our child-rearing years, seeking the path of least resistance and minimal expenditure of our life. We need to be sober and keep in our face the reality that what we do now will affect our children later. If we humble ourselves and cry out to God, He really will help us and give us the grace we need, just as He promised. He really will make a way for us in this hugely important responsibility, but to walk in His way requires us, on our part, to live every day by waking up, looking to Him in faith, and saying “LORD, I can’t, but You can through me. This day is too big for me, and I don’t know what all my family needs today, but You do, LORD, and I trust You to show me” God gave you the home you have and the children you have, and He will give you what you need to run your home and mother your children (Philippians 4:13).

Wow! I don’t know about you, but that challenges me! I want to stop comparing myself to other mothers and just be what God wants me to be. I also need to quit comparing my children with other children. Every child is unique. I need to mother each one of my children humbly and according to God’s Will.

May God bless you abundantly as you humbly lean on God instead of your own human understanding.

Fearless

First, we all got the creepy crud. Now that we have beaten it, I am back to blogging.

Have you seen the building 429 video Fearless? We were watching Spirit last night and saw it for the first time. Mr. Brown yells out, "Hey that's Will and Tim from Travel The Road" Sure enough, there's footage from them on the video.

If you have never seen the show Travel the Road, you must watch it. It is awesome. Will and Tim go all over the world as missionaries and they film it. We've been watching it for a couple years. Here's the video from godtube:

It made me think about something this past weekend. I dropped everyone but Piglet and Peach off at church on Sunday morning. We went to Dunkin Donuts to pick up some donuts for our Sunday School class. We just finished an Answers in Genesis study with the kids. As we were waiting for our order, Peach and I saw some girls reading some tracks. They were really reading them too, not just skimming through. I was in such a hurry, and Piglet wanted to have a donut, yadda yadda, I never said anything and we left.

When we were going down the road Peach asked if I saw the girls reading the tracks. I was so humiliated. Great, what if no one ever follows up with them. Why didn't I start talking to them? Why was I so concerned about what I was doing instead of seeing that opportunity. I have asked God to forgive me and I know he will, but what does that say about me? Going about my business, not seeing what is going on around me. You know that Brandon Heath song "Give me your Eyes" How fitting for this moment. Lord, please let me see those around me!
